Welcome to Old Brookville

Old Brookville, located on Long Island’s North Shore in Nassau County, is a village known for its rich history, scenic beauty, and upscale residential living. It was originally settled in the 17th century, with Dutch and English colonists establishing farms and homesteads in the area. The area was part of the Town of Oyster Bay during the colonial period and remained largely rural for much of its early history.

During the 19th century, as the population grew, Old Brookville remained a small and primarily agricultural community. It was known for its lush landscapes, which attracted wealthy individuals from New York City who were seeking an escape from urban life. By the early 20th century, the village began to transform into a highly desirable residential area.

The Gold Coast era, spanning from the late 1800s to the early 1900s, saw significant development in Old Brookville. Wealthy industrialists and financiers, such as those involved in the railroad, oil, and steel industries, built grand estates and mansions on large properties. These homes were often designed by prominent architects, blending classical, colonial, and Tudor styles.

In 1924, Old Brookville officially incorporated as a village, intending to preserve the rural charm and estate-style living that had become synonymous with the area. The incorporation allowed residents to ensure that the village would remain low-density and protect its vast green spaces.

Today, Old Brookville is one of the most affluent communities on Long Island, characterized by its large estates, private country clubs, and a strong sense of privacy. While much of its history is rooted in the wealth and grandeur of the Gold Coast, Old Brookville also boasts a commitment to preserving its historical landmarks and the natural beauty that made it such a sought-after destination for the New York elite.
