Welcome to Mineola

Mineola, located in the Town of North Hempstead on Long Island, has a rich history that dates back to the 17th century. Originally inhabited by the Matinecock Native Americans, the area was settled by English colonists in the late 1600s. The name "Mineola" is derived from the Matinecock word meaning "a place of clean water."

In the early years, Mineola was primarily a farming community. As Long Island's population grew in the 19th century, Mineola became a more prominent settlement, thanks to its location along major railroad lines. The Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) played a significant role in the area's development, and Mineola quickly became a transportation hub for commuters traveling to and from New York City.

By the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Mineola experienced growth due to its proximity to major roads and transportation routes. The village was officially incorporated in 1906, and its commercial and residential development grew, especially with the rise of suburbanization in the post-World War II era.

Today, Mineola is a vibrant, well-connected village known for its central location and strong community atmosphere. Situated in Nassau County, it offers a mix of residential, commercial, and retail spaces, making it a popular destination for commuters, families, and businesses.
