Welcome to Glen Head

Glen Head, NY, is a small, charming community located in the Town of North Hempstead on Long Island’s North Shore. Originally settled in the 17th century, the area was primarily agricultural, with early settlers engaged in farming and trade. The name "Glen Head" is thought to be derived from the "glen," or valley, in the region, and "head," referring to the high ground or headland overlooking it. Throughout the 19th century, Glen Head remained a quiet rural area, but by the late 1800s, it began to develop as a residential community as Long Island’s Gold Coast became a popular retreat for wealthy New Yorkers. The introduction of the railroad in the 1870s helped spur development, making the area more accessible to commuters traveling to New York City. Today, Glen Head is known for its suburban charm, excellent schools, and proximity to both nature and urban conveniences, offering a blend of quiet residential living and easy access to the cultural and economic opportunities of Manhattan.
